Pho Garden

2109 Clement St
San Francisco, CA 94121

Pho Garden is famous for their Mission Impossible: Pho Challenge.

2 pounds of noodle, 2 pounds of combination beef in a massive bowl, and finish it in 60 minutes. Whoever win the challenge can have this big meal for free, get the bowl as a trophy, and they will hang your picture on the wall. If you loose ( that's normal), you will also get their T-shirt as a souvenir. The challenge costs $22. Not challenge but sharing the big meal costs extra.

ZhuXiaoBao discovered this through a food channel on TV. It sounds like a good challenge for her.  She bravely took the challenge,  but unfortunately she failed.

At the second time she got smarter, she brought ZhuBaoBao with two other friends with her...
We shared one bowl, and it still looked like no one ever touch it after almost one hour eating. We  just gave up!

Has anybody won it?
...Yes, it is possible! There are some made it to the wall of fame.

Spring Roll and Beef Salad. How do they taste? I doubt who really taste the food while taking the challenge?

Our Recommendation: Just Bring SIX friends with you and share one bowl!

Let's take the challenge!

Milk

7290 Beverly Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90036

It is a very nice little place in LA. They just have limited street parking, so make sure you prepare some coins. Customers can sit inside and outside, but I prefer dinning inside. Sitting outside is kind of loud and dusty.

They have a huge selection of desserts from ice cream bars/ macrons/ shake to all sorts of cake and cookies. But we always come back for the same things.

Blue Velvet Cake
We are a huge fan of the blue/red velvet cream cheese frosting and this place has one of the best cream cheese frosting we ever had! And the blueberries definitely give it a nice twist! The perfection of the combination makes the cake unique.  ZhuXiaoBao thinks the blue cake is cool, because we had never seen any blue cakes before. It is their famous cake, you must try.
Warning: Not only the tongue turns to blue but also the.........for THREE days...

Red Velvet Cupcake
They have two size of red velvet cupcake. If this is too big for you, you can also get the mini version which is called Red Velvet Poppers. ZhuXiaoBao No2 is not a cupcake fan, popper is enough, but No1 is a crazy fan of cupcakes. The large cupcake is perfect for her.

Grasshopper (macrons)
Grasshopper is mint and chocolate ice cream. We read some good reviews of this, but we think it is just okay.

Cobb Salad
We though Milk only focus on desserts but we found out the salad is pretty good as well. The Cobb Salad is surprisingly delicious. We highly recommend. It is big enough to share.

Our Best Recommendation: Blue Velvet Cake, Red Velvet Cupcake, Cobb Salad.

Sweet!

Plum Café

369 East 17th St.
Costa Mesa, CA 92627

It is a good place for brunch on the weekends. Although the price is sort of high and they charge 18% gratuity for party over 5 people and barely offer service, we will still come back.
We like the atmosphere and the presentation of the food. They have both outdoor and indoor seats, and we like sitting outside.
We prefer the brunch menu rather than the lunch or dinner manu. Our favorite dishes are Northwest Berry Waffle (this is the only waffle they have) and the Dutch Baby.

Northwest Berry Waffle
We just like waffles! It is a medium size waffle with fresh berries and whipping cream. The waffle is really good.

Dutch Baby
Dutch Baby takes 20 minutes to prepare, but it worths the wait. It is acually a deep dish pancake skillet baked. ZhuXiaoBao No.1 likes the soft bottom part, but the ZhuXiaoBao No.2 likes the crispy side (wall) part. Best Match! Oh, and don't forget to put some lemon and French! It tastes better.

Special Omelet
We also like their Special Omelet which you can select five ingredients by your own. ZhuXiaoBao's recipe is cheese, bacon, ham, tomato, and asparagus.

Coconut French Toast
We are kind of disappointed at the Coconut French Toast, it looks better than it tastes; even my little sister who likes coconut was not that impressed by it.

Our Best Recommendation: Northwest Berry Waffle and Dutch Baby.

Bon Appetit!!
